My husband and I in Alaska 2 years ago. No makeup and hair that had been cut very little since 2020. :) Keepin' it real.
As I type this, life has taken a shift, and we are getting ready to sell our house! It's in these moments that we are reminded just how hard transitions can be. One season begins, another ends... and the cycle of life moves on. Oh, and it just happens to be our 30th wedding anniversary!
My husband and I are empty nesters, as of exactly 6 years ago this month. So it is that we no longer have to worry about school districts, unless it's for resale value, or many of the things that we did years ago.
It opens up a lot of possibilities for us moving forward. Do we buy the fixer upper and work some magic and live in the chaos that will most definitely ensue? Do we buy something that is fixed up to someone else's standard? I long for the former, my husband the latter. To be fair, I can see it all as it could be when I walk into a house; my husband isn't so fortunate. All he can see is the things he doesn't like about whatever space we are in. In truth, we'll probably land somewhere in between. We are both good compromisers; so I'm sure that will be the end result.
What troubles do you have when you are looking for a new home, or updating the home you have? Do you have one optimist and one pessimist, ahem, I mean realist, as they prefer to be called ;) One modern, one traditional? Compromise really is the best way forward.
What I've discovered in my journey with people over the years is that, when you find a good compromise to opposing ideas, you can often end up with something that's even better than either on their own. The uniqueness that emerges from compromise often brings character and interest that is so refreshing in a world of cut and paste designs and trends.
In the end, the things that matter in life are the relationships that you forge; the character that you display and the lives that you touch along the way. Jump into life, experience travel, do all the things, but never at the expense of your relationships. Those will be the things that carry you through all the ups and downs and transitions of life. As much as I love a pretty space, and updated looks, I will never compromise the relationships of those I'm working with for an end result. As we move forward and learn about design trends, styles and all the pretty things, I will try and remind you of all that is important, as well.
Life is better with balance, and when you find it, it is the most beautiful thing of all. Many blessings to you all!
